What does a trailer look like?

Over the course of the past few weeks I have been taking my first step in the process of creating my film. The objective has not necessarily been to establish a storyline, or even to shoot actual scenes. I have been working towards the goal of understanding my characters and their real life counterparts. I have about 5 hours of gopro footage that I have been watching through, getting a feel for the day-to-day of the people I am shooting, and their behavioral tendencies. It is a way to put me as close to being in their head, and with them at all times as possible. It has taught me a lot, but it has left me with little time for actually shooting. So after scrambling over this past week to shoot more and edit a somewhat quality "trailer" sketch for my movie concept, this is where we are. About a minute long, and very to the point. I have begun to realize that, as Paul Rudd put it on Hot Ones, some of the most dramatic moments in cinema happen in comedies, and some of the funniest parts of movies are really dramatic. The two go hand in hand, and I need to find a way to walk that line of genuine, intense dramatization, and self-aware humor. This production needs to be aware of itself, while maintaining a good distance from adhering to tightly to convention. It is an interesting challenge to overcome, but I am excited to see where it takes me.
